    Substitute Teacher Requirements

    To be considered to become a substitute in Grand Saline ISD you must complete the trainings listed below and provide the listed documentation.

    You may pick up copies of the required trainings and documents listed below at 400 Stadium Drive, Grand Saline, Texas.  Additional documents may be required.

Art Teacher

 Description: Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in learning styles in students;  Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations; Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of student learning styles.
 Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from accredited university or its equivalent; Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements; Must demonstrate competency in the core academic subject area assigned and teaching methods to be applied; Must demonstrate ability to instruct students and manage their behavior; Must demonstrate strong supervisory, organizational, communication and interpersonal skills. 


Teacher/Coach

Director of Maintenance/Transportation

 Description:
Direct and manage district's custodial, grounds, and transportation operations.
Establish cleaning schedules and procedures to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency
of building operations and grounds for all district facilities. 
Ensure safe and efficient operation of transportation department.
Oversee maintenance of all district-owned vehicles.
 Qualifications: Administrative certification and experience preferred
Knowledge of basic principles of construction, school plant maintenance, and custodial operations
Ability to conduct on-site inspection of district facilities
Ability to manage budget and personnel
Ability to implement policy and procedures
Ability to interpret data
Ability to read blueprints and schematics
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Clear and valid texas commercial license with passenger and school bus endorsements preferred.

Bilingual Teacher
 Location:  Elementary, PreK

 Description: Elementary Bilingual Teacher for PreK
 Qualifications: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.  Valid Texas teaching certification with required endorsement for subject/level assigned  General knowledge of curriculum and instruction.  

Bus Driver
 Location: Transportation Department

 Description: Operate school bus and related equipment to provide safe and orderly transportation of students and other authorized persons on assigned route and to and from other designated locations.
 Qualifications: Positive attitude
Ability to keep a pleasant disposition while working with children of all ages
Valid Texas commercial driver’s license (Class B)
School Bus Driver Certification

Substitute Custodian
 Location: Custodial Department

 Description: GSISD needs to have personnel available to fill in when regular cutodians are out of District. 
 Qualifications: Ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures;  Knowledge of minor repair techniques and building and grounds maintenance; Ability to operate cleaning equipment and lift heavy equipment; ability to properly handle cleaning supplies.  Experience Preferred

Substitute Bus Driver

 Description: GSISD needs have personnel available to drive when regular bus drivers are out of District. Candidate must be able to pass background check as well as alcohol and drug test. 
 Qualifications: Positive attitude
Ability to keep a pleasant disposition while working with children of all ages
 Valid Texas commercial driver’s license (Class B)
 School Bus Driver Certification
