    Substitute Teacher Requirements

    To be considered to become a substitute in Grand Saline ISD you must complete the trainings listed below and provide the listed documentation.

    You may pick up copies of the required trainings and documents listed below at 400 Stadium Drive, Grand Saline, Texas.  Additional documents may be required.

Head Start Paraprofessional
 
 Location: Elementary Campus

 Description: Assist in preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements.  Work under supervision of classroom teacher. 

 Qualifications: High school diploma or GED.  Experience related to working with students and parents.  Desire and ability to work with and effectively communicate with staff, students, and parents.  Keyboarding and computer proficiency required.


Middle School Counselor

 Description: Plan, implement, and evaluate a guidance program to encourage all students to maximize personal growth and development; address major areas of concerns in intervention-common educational and psychosocial problems. 
Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development.  Teach school developmental guidance curriculum to students. Help teachers incorporate guidance-related information into existing curriculum.
1. Coding of special populations in PEIMS.
2. Scheduling of students in student software.
3. Oversee campus testing and data submissions.
4. Contribute to the development of program goals to reduce school failures and absenteeism.
5. Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the at-risk program and implement changes based on the findings.

 Qualifications: Master's degree in guidance counseling from an accredited college or university 
Valid Texas counselor certification


High School US History

 Description: Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
 Qualifications: 1. Bachelor's degree from accredited university; 
2. Valid Texas Teaching certificate, with required endorsements for subject/level assigned; 
3. Knowledge of subjects assigned; 
4. General knowledge of curriculum and instruction; 
5. Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior; 
6. Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills. 



Reading Intervention Teacher

 Description: 1. Plan, develop and implement lesson plans for targeted small-group instruction that fulfill the requirements of the district’s instructional
program and show written evidence of preparations as required; prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student
abilities and learning styles; coordinate with instructional staff, including but not limited to special education teachers, to modify curricula
as needed according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP) or Individual Accommodation Plan (IAP).
2. Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits; help achieve the improvement of all students; conduct ongoing assessment
of student achievement through formal and informal testing
3. Create a classroom environment conducive to active and successful student learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and
emotional development of students; manage student behavior.
 Qualifications: 1. Bachelor's degree from accredited university; 
2. Valid Texas Teaching certificate, with required endorsements for subject/level assigned; 
3. Knowledge of Fountas and Pinnell Reading Systems or READ 180 preferred
4. Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior; 
5. Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills. 


Cafeteria

 Description: Food Preparation and Serving, Safety and Sanitation, Some Heavy Lifting
 Qualifications:  Ability to understand written and verbal food preparation and safety instructions, working knowledge of kitchen equipment and food production procedures, ability to operate large and small kitchen equipment and tools, ability to perform basic math, knowledge of food service helpful. Must have or obtaining food handlers card.
 




Speech Pathologist

 Description: To provide support in the area of speech and related service to students.
 Qualifications: 1. Master’s degree;
2. Valid Texas license as a speech language pathologist/therapist granted by the Texas Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology or TEA Speech Therapy certificate;
3. Skills in the use of tests and measurements for assessing speech-language disorders;
4. Knowledge of evaluation, habilitation, and rehabilitation of speech, language, and hearing disorders;


Intermediate Teacher

 Description: Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
Develop and implement plans that fulfill the requirements of the district and state curriculum program assigned and show written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in learning styles in students.  Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.   Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).

 Qualifications: 1. Bachelor's degree from accredited university.
2. Valid Texas Teaching certificate, with required endorsements for subject/level assigned and ESL Certification preferred.
3. Knowledge of subjects assigned.
4. General knowledge of curriculum and instruction.

Behavior Teacher Self-Contained Classroom

 Description: Provide special education students with learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for
intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.  Develop or modify curriculum and prepare lessons and other instructional
materials to match student ability levels.  Work in self-contained, team, departmental, or itinerant capacity as assigned.
 Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from accredited university.  Valid Texas teaching certificate in Special Education in grade level assigned. 
Knowledge of Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting process and implementation. 
Knowledge of how to adapt curriculum and instruction for special needs, Effective Communication skills.
 


Bilingual Teacher

Bus Driver

 Description: Operate school bus and related equipment to provide safe and orderly transportation of students and other authorized persons on assigned route and to and from other designated locations.
 Qualifications: Positive attitude
Ability to keep a pleasant disposition while working with children of all ages

 Description: GSISD needs to have personnel available to fill in when regular cutodians are out of District. 
 Qualifications: Ability to understand written and verbal food preparation and safety instructions,
working knowledge of kitchen equipment and food production procedures,
ability to operate large and small kitchen equipment and tools, ability to
perform basic math, knowledge of food service helpful.

Substitute Custodian

 Description: GSISD needs to have personnel available to fill in when regular cutodians are out of District. 
 Qualifications: Ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures;  Knowledge of minor repair techniques and building and grounds maintenance; Ability to operate cleaning equipment and lift heavy equipment; ability to properly handle cleaning supplies.  Experience Preferred

Substitute Bus Driver
 Location: Transportation Department

 Description: GSISD needs have personnel available to drive when regular bus drivers are out of District. Candidate must be able to pass background check as well as alcohol and drug test. 
 Qualifications: Positive attitude
