    Substitute Teacher Requirements

    To be considered to become a substitute in Grand Saline ISD you must complete the trainings listed below and provide the listed documentation.

    You may pick up copies of the required trainings and documents listed below at 400 Stadium Drive, Grand Saline, Texas.  Additional documents may be required.

Cafeteria Worker

 Description: Food Preparation and Serving, Safety and Sanitation, Some Heavy Lifting
 Qualifications: Ability to understand written and verbal food preparation and safety instructions, working knowledge of kitchen equipment and food production procedures, ability to operate large and small kitchen equipment and tools, ability to perform basic math, knowledge of food service helpful. Must have or obtaining food handlers card.
 
 
 

SPED Paraprofessional

 Description: Assist in preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements.  Work under supervision of classroom teacher.  This is a grant funded position and there will be no guarantee of employment beyond the end of the grant.
 Qualifications: High school diploma or GED.  Experience related to working with students and parents.  Desire and ability to work with and effectively communicate with staff, students, and parents.  Keyboarding and computer proficiency required.

 Description: Direct and manage the instructional program and supervise operations and personnel at the campus level; provide instructional leadership to ensure high standards
of instructional service; oversee compliance with district policies, success of instructional programs, and operation of all campus activities.
 Qualifications: Education/Certification: Master’s degree in Educational Administration from an accredited college or university Texas Mid-Management
or other appropriate Texas certificate; Certified Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS) appraiser

Cosmetology Instructor

 Description: Create lesson plans and demonstrations that meet state requirements. Cover the required subject areas, which generally include science, aesthetics and hairdressing and hygiene and sanitation. Ensure students receive the proper mix of practical and theoretical instruction and that they spend the required hours covering each subject area. Actively engage in students' learning experience and provide direct supervision at all times. Maintain student files, such as grades and attendance records. At completion of course of instruction, students’ should be to pass the necessary examinations for licensing and embark upon a successful career path.
 Qualifications: Valid State Board of Educator Certification (SBEC) or  be eligible and required to earn certification with Vocational Trades and Industry with approval from Career and Technical Education.

The Following Certifications Have Additional Work And Education Requirements Trade and Industrial Education
Option I - 1) a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution; 2) three years of full-time wage-earning experience within the past eight years in approved occupations for which instruction is offered.
Option II - 1) an associates' degree from an accredited institution; 2) three years of full-time wage-earning experience within the past eight years in one or more approved occupations for which instruction is offered
Option III - 1) a high school diploma or equivalent; 2) five years of full- time wage-earning experience within the past eight years in approved occupations for which instruction is offered.

Speech Pathologist

 Description: To provide support in the area of speech and related service to students.
 Qualifications: 1. Master’s degree;
2. Valid Texas license as a speech language pathologist/therapist granted by the Texas Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology or TEA Speech Therapy certificate;
3. Skills in the use of tests and measurements for assessing speech-language disorders;
4. Knowledge of evaluation, habilitation, and rehabilitation of speech, language, and hearing disorders;


Bilingual Teacher
 Location:  Elementary, PreK

 Description: Elementary Bilingual Teacher for PreK
 Qualifications: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.  Valid Texas teaching certification with required endorsement for subject/level assigned  General knowledge of curriculum and instruction.  

Bus Driver
 Location: Transportation Department

 Description: Operate school bus and related equipment to provide safe and orderly transportation of students and other authorized persons on assigned route and to and from other designated locations.
 Qualifications: Positive attitude
Ability to keep a pleasant disposition while working with children of all ages
Valid Texas commercial driver’s license (Class B)

 Qualifications: Ability to understand written and verbal food preparation and safety instructions,
working knowledge of kitchen equipment and food production procedures,
ability to operate large and small kitchen equipment and tools, ability to
perform basic math, knowledge of food service helpful.

Substitute Custodian
 Location: Custodial Department

 Description: GSISD needs to have personnel available to fill in when regular cutodians are out of District. 
 Qualifications: Ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures;  Knowledge of minor repair techniques and building and grounds maintenance; Ability to operate cleaning equipment and lift heavy equipment; ability to properly handle cleaning supplies.  Experience Preferred

Substitute Bus Driver

 Description: GSISD needs have personnel available to drive when regular bus drivers are out of District. Candidate must be able to pass background check as well as alcohol and drug test. 
 Qualifications: Positive attitude
