    Substitute Teacher Requirements

    To be considered to become a substitute in Grand Saline ISD you must complete the trainings listed below and provide the listed documentation.

    You may pick up copies of the required trainings and documents listed below at 400 Stadium Drive, Grand Saline, Texas.  Additional documents may be required.

Current Positions Available
Maintenance Worker

 Description: Perform general maintenance and repair of building structures and their mechanical, electrical, and sanitary systems throughout district.  Assist skilled workers with repair and maintenance of district facilities, including repairing woodwork; replacing electrical switches, fixtures, and motors; painting, repairing, and replacing plumbing fixtures and drainage systems; and replacing broken glass; Inspect building exterior and interior, playground equipment, and grounds; perform maintenance and minor repairs; Detect and report needed major repairs on building structures and their systems, including lockers, furniture, and equipment; Complete repairs as requested on work orders or by maintenance foreman; Assist with relocation of furnishings, such as desks, tables, chairs, file cabinets, etc.;  Move, install, assemble, and repair all school furniture and playground equipment as needed; Hang pictures, mirrors, black boards, bulletin boards, projection screens, towel dispensers, soap dispensers, and other items as required
 
 Qualifications: Knowledge of basic construction and routine maintenance and repair procedures
Ability to operate hand and power tools; Ability to follow verbal and written instructions; Ability to communicate effectively (verbally); Ability to work independently and with a group

 Description: Responsible for overall management of the district’s facilities and operations. Direct and manage maintenance, transportation, custodial , and food service operations for the district.
 Qualifications: Master’s degree in business related field or educational administration
Valid Texas principal/ superintendent certification preferred

Minimum Experience:
Five years of  experience in school management, preferred


Speech Pathologist

 Description: To provide support in the area of speech and related service to students.
 Qualifications: 1. Master’s degree;
2. Valid Texas license as a speech language pathologist/therapist granted by the Texas Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology or TEA Speech Therapy certificate;
3. Skills in the use of tests and measurements for assessing speech-language disorders;
4. Knowledge of evaluation, habilitation, and rehabilitation of speech, language, and hearing disorders;


Bilingual Teacher
 Location:  Elementary, PreK

 Description: Elementary Bilingual Teacher for PreK
 Qualifications: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.  Valid Texas teaching certification with required endorsement for subject/level assigned  General knowledge of curriculum and instruction.  

Bus Driver

 Description: Operate school bus and related equipment to provide safe and orderly transportation of students and other authorized persons on assigned route and to and from other designated locations.
 Qualifications: Positive attitude
Ability to keep a pleasant disposition while working with children of all ages
Valid Texas commercial driver’s license (Class B)
School Bus Driver Certification

Substitute Cafeteria
 Location: Cafeteria Department

 Description: GSISD needs to have personnel available to fill in when regular cutodians are out of District. 
 Qualifications: Ability to understand written and verbal food preparation and safety instructions,
working knowledge of kitchen equipment and food production procedures,
ability to operate large and small kitchen equipment and tools, ability to
perform basic math, knowledge of food service helpful.

Substitute Custodian

 Description: GSISD needs to have personnel available to fill in when regular cutodians are out of District. 
 Qualifications: Ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures;  Knowledge of minor repair techniques and building and grounds maintenance; Ability to operate cleaning equipment and lift heavy equipment; ability to properly handle cleaning supplies.  Experience Preferred

Substitute Bus Driver

 Description: GSISD needs have personnel available to drive when regular bus drivers are out of District. Candidate must be able to pass background check as well as alcohol and drug test. 
 Qualifications: Positive attitude
Ability to keep a pleasant disposition while working with children of all ages
 Valid Texas commercial driver’s license (Class B)
 School Bus Driver Certification
