    Substitute Teacher Requirements

    To be considered to become a substitute in Grand Saline ISD you must complete the trainings listed below and provide the listed documentation.

    You may pick up copies of the required trainings and documents listed below at 400 Stadium Drive, Grand Saline, Texas.  Additional documents may be required.

Diagnostician

 Description: Assess the educational, learning styles, and program needs of students referred to special education services.  Work cooperatively with instructional personnel to provide the most appropriate instructional programs for students with disabilities.
 Qualifications: Master’s degree in educational assessment;  Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements; Valid Texas educational diagnostician certificate; 5 years experience preferred.  Knowledge of diagnostic procedures, education of special education students, human development and learning theories; Ability to interpret data; Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Elementary Para Professional

 Description: Provide special education students with learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.  Develop or modify curriculum and prepare lessons and other instructional materials to match student ability levels.  Work in self-contained, team, departmental, or itinerant capacity as assigned.
 Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from accredited university.  Valid Texas teaching certificate in Special Education in grade level assigned.  Knowledge of Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting process and implementation.  Knowledge of how to adapt curriculum and instruction for special needs, Effective Communication skills.

High School Biology/Composite Science

Bus Driver

 Description: Operate school bus and related equipment to provide safe and orderly transportation of students and other authorized persons on assigned route and to and from other designated locations.
 Qualifications: Positive attitude
Ability to keep a pleasant disposition while working with children of all ages
Valid Texas commercial driver’s license (Class B)

Substitute Custodian

 Description: GSISD needs to have personnel available to fill in when regular cutodians are out of District. 
 Qualifications: Ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures;  Knowledge of minor repair techniques and building and grounds maintenance; Abilit to operage cleaning equipment and lift heavy equipment; ability to properly handle cleaning supplies.  Experience Preferred

Substitute Bus Driver

 Description: GSISD needs have personnel available to drive when regular bus drivers are out of District. Candidate must be able to pass background check as well as alcohol and drug test. 
 Qualifications: Positive attitude
